You Took a Ferry ???

Today’s journey took us from Saratoga Springs to Franconia, New Hampshire.  We got there via the ferry across Lake Champlain.  We caught the Ferry in Port Kent, NY and ended up in Burlington, Vermont.

Not everyone would drive a few hours out of their way to take a Ferry – but, we would … and did.  It was a great drive, as the first part was through the Adirondack Mountains, then the Ferry, and lastly through Vermont.

It was a short day, as we were checked in by 3pm, took a nap, and got pizza at a local Tavern.  Another good day. One more to go.

The drive through the Adirondacks was pretty – lots of green rolling hills and some lakes. We passed the sign for Lake Placid, home of the Winter Olympics when the USA won the Gold in Hockey.  I didn’t get a photo of the sign.  I was chastised.

We made it to Port Kent with 30 minutes to spare to catch the 11am Ferry.  We waited in line, Natasha took care of business, and we were soon onboard.  Some photos from the hour long cruise:

Natasha was very popular on the Ferry, getting lots of attention.

the other Ferry coming back from Burlington – we looked just like this, except going the other way…actually, we looked just like this, since the ferries don’t turn around

There were lots of sailboats out on the water, as people enjoyed a warm Sunday

One more gratuitous puppy shot – Tasha enjoyed the wind and was once again surprisingly well-behaved.

Driving through Burlington, Vermont – one of the University of Vermont Buildings, and someone’s head.

We were soon driving through Montpelier, Capitol of Vermont.  Here is the Capitol Building – in the trees.  Some people might stop for a photograph, but not us.  We are now in Drive-Mode (to be fair, all I have to do is ask, and Lou will stop, but I never think about it until it’s too late).

The Vermont countryside – as beautiful as we remembered from last year’s trip.

More drive-by beauty in Vermont

There are a lot of churches in Vermont.  This one is in Franconia, the small town in the White Mountains where we are staying tonite.

That’s enough for tonight.  We only have about a 4 hour trip tomorrow, depending on how often we stop.  Will report in from Camden, and also finish up our Skyline Drive pics and the Flea Bag Motel Review.

Made it to Connecticut

A leisurely drive today from New Hampshire to Connecticut.  Saw a fair amount of snow on the ground.

Here are a few more photos of the Grand View Mountain Resort – we’re back to Hampton Inns for the next few nights.
