What’s New?

Let’s see … we started the week with a nice visit from Kathy. She introduced me to the Hallmark Mystery Channel. Yesterday, Emily came by and we visited, and she joined us for pizza. It was great to catch up. She is doing well, is married to a nice guy (Dave, who we met last year), and is teaching high school in Rockland.

I had my annual mammogram, and all is good. That makes year No. 6 in the clear. Fortunately, I don’t worry about it, but it is nice to get the good result.

Lou is busy working on trains and projects. He doesn’t seem to have enough hours in the day to get everything done – whoever said retirement was boring?

I finished my #30faces30days challenge. This was all about doing a new portrait each day for 30 days. There were 6 instructors who each lead 5 lessons over the course of the 30 days. I liked 3 of the 5 instructors, but didn’t care for the techniques or teaching style of two of them. Good to have a variety! I learned a lot. Went from tracing most of the subject, to being able to draw the faces before painting. Also learned more about using the iPad app to draw and paint.

I am going to redraw the guy in the first lesson (top left photo), to see if I can make him look less like a serial killer.

We just got off a surprise Zoom Birthday party for Amy, arranged by sister Claudia. It was fun. Hope the rest of your birthday is great, Amy!

Hope everyone enjoyed a nice day. We had planned to go out on the boat, but the weather did not cooperate – foggy and misty. The flag pic was taken on the 3rd, when it was bright and sunny


We enjoyed a socially distant bar-b-q with Donna and Pat, our neighbors. Pat cooked brats and burgers, and Donna provided a Holiday dessert.

Who would have guessed we needed a fire on July 4th???


It was a nice gathering. We all make sure to give each other space, and spend as much time outdoors as possible. We have limited contact with the outside world, and the same for Pat and Donna.

Sunday Brunch

We are relaxing and enjoying almost spring in Maine. I should say, I am relaxing; Lou is working on taxes. Today we went to brunch at one of our favorite restaurants. We had a great meal and good visit with our neighbor, Pat. (Donna is in Ohio visiting family)

What??? Closed??? We arrived early for our 10am reservation, so waited a few minutes.

A spicy Bloody Mary was a treat! Thanks for driving, Pat.
Pat had the sweet potato and kale hash with poached eggs. She said it was good.
Lou went with the corned beef hash – it is hiding under his over-easy eggs.
I chose the Basic Breakfast with eggs over medium. This was perfect.

None of us had room for dessert, but it was tempting. We had a great morning, and then proceeded to nap most of the day away 😉

Pickle Time

In the ongoing report on our adventures, here is my new Pickleball gear … Karen took me to get new court sneakers, and gave me a racket and a ball. I’m set. She also showed me a bit about the game … will just need to continue strengthening the knee.


We took our car back to the airport to avoid super early drop-off tomorrow morning. Just happened to get back to home territory in time for a quick stop at my favorite.

Obviously, Weight Watchers is on vacation this week !!!

We enjoyed Friday in Arizona. Tom treated Karen and I to a walk around the Mesa Mart … we saw lots of crafts, t-shirts, and artwork.

After a quick and tasty dinner of hotdogs and hamburgers, we set off for an evening adventure. This time, Tom and Karen were treating us to a cultural experience. We were on our way to ASU for the musical “Beautiful.” This is the story of Carole King’s early music career – both the story and the music were great. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

We had fun balcony seats where we could see everything, and Lou had an aisle. Everyone enjoyed the show, especially the lady in front of us who rocked the whole night long.
